Spanish Class Grading Practices & Policies

1.   At least 85% of assignments will directly represent MASTERY of the language, including culture, listening, reading, writing, and speaking.  No more than 15% of any grade will reflect behavior, homework, and/or participation.

2.   For the SIX WEEKS GRADE each assignment has a point value, for instance, a test may be 100 points while a quiz may be 40 points.  Grades will be calculated by adding up the points earned and dividing by the point possible.

3.   LATE WORK will be accepted according to the teacher announced deadlines with a fair penalty.

MAKE UP ASSIGNMENTS (tests, essays, quizzes, projects, etc.) are the responsibility of the student.  When missing class for any reason, the student should arrange a time with the teacher to obtain missed work, in advance if possible.

TESTS taken on the day given may be retaken one time.   The test will be similar in skills, but may not be the same test.  The better grade stands.

4.  Any projects requiring GROUP WORK will be graded when appropriate with individual participation accounted for within the specific rubric.

5.   There will be a midterm and a final exam, each containing material covered in that half of the course.  The two exams are averaged together and recorded on the student’s grade report as the FINAL EXAMINATION GRADE.   Each exam will be a comprehensive assessment of the student’s Spanish skills.  The student may perform during as many as three class periods for each exam including the scheduled examination period.  The writing, oral, reading, and listening performance grades are compiled to complete each exam’s grade.

6.    As the COURSE GRADE, the student will receive the higher of:

1. His/her 3 six weeks and exam averaged together OR

2. The comprehensive final exam grade

CHEATING : If a student cheats on any assigned work, his/her parents will be called by the teacher and the student will be referred to the principal.  The student will be allowed to retake a similar test/activity.

MATERIALS : Everyone is expected to bring the text book, workbook, paper, and a writing utensil to class.

Please realize that it is imperative for you to start studying and memorizing vocabulary from the very first day.  Even if you don’t have “homework” assigned, you always have vocabulary that needs to be learned.  This requires discipline and motivation on your part.  Please don’t fall behind!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful semester!!
